The Old Absinthe House

The building has been around since 1807, on New Orleans’ now famous Bourbon Street, and has been home to a number of businesses including a grocery store and importing firm. In 1815, it was converted into a saloon, “Aleix’s Coffee House.” When a mixologist created the famous Absinthe House Frappe in 1874, the name of the coffee house was renamed, “The Absinthe Room.” Although absinthe is no longer legal for sale in the US, its legend remains in what is now known as “The Old Absinthe House”, where patrons can still get a variety of similar legal drinks in this beautiful historic building.
